Subhodip Biswas
Subhodip Biswas was a Ph. D. student in the Department of Computer Science. He was advised by Naren Ramakrishnan.
His research interests were spatial data mining, geographic information systems, education, and crowdsourcing.
Biswas was an NSF research trainee in the UrbComp program and has earned the graduate certificate.
He worked on a crowdsourcing and analytics system, Redistrict , designed to foster civic engagement for the school attendance zone boundary process. Redistrict allows members and stakeholders of a local school district to view proposed plans, comment on them, and propose changes to boundaries to create their own plans. The objective is to support community members in understanding proposed changes to school districts and their potential impacts, to help them share feedback and alternatives with their neighbors and school board members, and to be more engaged in the process and feel greater self-efficacy in general. For this project, Biswas worked closely with school boards in Northern Virginia, particularly Loudoun County Public Schools and Fairfax County Public Schools.
