Tanner Fredieu

Tanner Fredieu, a Ph.D. student in Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer engineering, is a software system engineer in the Mission Systems Engineering Division at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. Since May 2023, he has led the design, development, and deployment of deep learning-based computer vision systems for satellites operating in low-Earth orbit. His advisor is Lynn Abbott.
Fredieu’s research is aimed at the development of bio-inspired methods for continuous learning and memory formation in artificial intelligence to overcome catastrophic forgetting with the primary applications being in computer vision software. The focus of the research is on investigating how spiking neural networks and sparsity in these networks might provide solutions to the problem.
