New software simulates the impact of alternative fuels for freight trains

Researchers at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute recently created the nationwide multi-train simulation software, NeTrainSim, to show the impacts of a countrywide shift away from diesel. Ahmed Aredah, a graduate student at the Sanghani Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics, is working on the project led by Hesham Rakha.

Aadyant Khatri

Aadyant Khatri is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer Science.  He is advised by Chang-Tien Lu. His research is focused on the natural language processing aspect of artificial intelligence. Specifically, he is working with large language models.

Kaike Ping is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer Science.  His advisor is Eugenia Rho. Ping’s  broad research interest is in natural language processing and computational social science, with a focus on human-computer interaction  in developing and evaluating an interactive artificial intelligence system to assist people.

Faizan Manzoor

Faizan Manzoor is a master’s degree student in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His advisor is Ming Jin. His research lies in developing a machine learning based intrusion detection system that leverages in-context learning capabilities of large language models for the cyber security of substations.
